Getting ready for Christmas in London

London sparkles at Christmas time! The streets are lit up, shop windows are decorated, and there is a Christmas fair or carnival set up in Hyde Park, along with Christmas markets like those seen in Germany. And all over town there are ice rinks created just for the holiday season.

Marcia and I went to Harrods just to see some of the decorations and to get some possible gift ideas. The food hall was festive and brimming with goodies.

We stopped off at the area in Harrods where children visit with Santa. While waiting on line for Santa, the children walk through a maze-like area that is decorated like a fairy land and is filled with interesting characters from literature. Below is Captain Hook from Peter Pan who kindly agreed to pose for our camera.

Later, we walked through Hyde Park, where we saw someone who described himself as "The Squirrel Man." The squirrels climbed up his leg to take food from his hands - or sometimes from his pocket.

Walking further on in the park, we came across a Christmas fairground or carnival with lots of different rides for the family.

Along one pathway in the park, there was a string of small shops created to sell handcrafts. These were set up in the same way the Christmas Markets are set up in Germany.

Finally, there was an ice skating rink set up just for the Christmas season. I understand there will be several of these located all over London.
